KSh389.00

Description

When Daboko, one of the female hippos in Kiboko’s herd, was due to give birth, she was sent away, as was the hippo tradition. She was instructed that if the calf was male, she should wean it and let it take care of itself.

Daboko gave birth to a male calf, Kaboko. She left Kaboko after weaning him with instructions that once he was strong and ready for a fight; he was more than welcome back home to fight for the position of herd leader.

Later, Kaboko went home to fight Kiboko. After the ultimate humiliation, Kaboko became the head of the hippo herd. According to hippo traditions, leadership is never handed over on a silver platter. Any hippo interested in being a leader must be ready to die.
